Overcoming Obstacles In Group Activities

Decent Essays
When things become difficult in a group activity, sitting there quietly isn’t an option for me. I take the initiative to begin to figure out what I can do to overcome a challenge the group and I are faced with. In the most difficult tasks, I enjoy finding new ways to work through any challenges. If one method fails, I work continuously to find another method with the help of other group members. I am interested in hearing other people’s ideas and working with them to effectively fix any errors. I enjoy finding new things that work with other people and taking action in a tough situation. In being observant, realistic, and taking initiative, I understand that the road is different for everyone. Many people don’t have the same opportunities

As a collaborator, my strengths were that I made sure that everything got done on time and that it was done right. My weaknesses were that I didn’t really talk to my group as much as I should have and I kind of didn’t put responsibility on anyone but myself. Group work requires talking to others, otherwise you’ll just pull all of the weight and the other group members will get a free ride. Honestly, I feel comfortable controlling the whole process of group work and have people just follow what I say so I know that things are getting done right. This is probably not good, but I don’t feel like I can trust groups because a lot of the time people don’t do what they’re supposed to.…

Successful group leaders are able to facilitate the therapeutic process; they provide a safe and inclusive environment for members to self-disclose and explore urgent issues and interpersonal patterns (Corey, Corey, & Corey, as cited in Blake, 2016a). In the future, I hope to improve my facilitation of the therapeutic process in groups by becoming more attuned to the rhythm and pacing of group…

Communication Theory: Concept of Self We can’t not communicate even we attempt not to; we are still communicating a message. Therefore, the steps taken not to communicate become a form of communication. Communication is not just words, its body language, the tone in your voice, your attitude, shrugs, and most of all your face expressions. A common quote, I have heard throughout my life clearly defines interpersonal communication “if it is your intent to do something remember people judge you by your actions not what you intended to do.” We all say things that we wish we would have never said.…
