After finishing middle school, I came to the conclusion that I was going to do something that my other brothers and sisters didn't; go off to college and make my parents euphoric. Growing up I faced a great deal of adversity. Even though still to this day I didn't overcome them all, I also didn't let them put the dreams that I wanted to fulfill on hold. On the right side of my chin there still remains a mark of misery. In the year of 2005, being asthmatic took a toll on my life and as a result i was hospitalized for almost a month. Laid up in a hospital for weeks with needles in my skin and tubes in my mouth was

A time when there has been strength in the time of adversity. A time when there was adversity in our state was when the young man Dylan Roof went into the African American church in Charleston and killed nine people. The people at this church did not know that when they came to church that night there was going to be a shooting at the church. Even though Dylan killed nine people and many families were hurt people still came together as a city and remembered the nine people that were killed. Roman poet, Horace, once said that, "adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant. " What he means is that when a person is put through misfortune rather than a fortunate environment, they're more likely to display their talent. Throughout history, there have been many people that showed what they could do, especially during dark times. Nelson Mandela showed his skills of leadership when apartheid took place in South Africa. Stephen Hawking continued to show his brilliance even after he suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.…

You're supposed to move forward, not back, but sometimes you need to take a step into your past to move forward into your future. Struggles are everywhere and it takes true inner strength to over come the hardest ones. I know it is easier said than done, but it doesn't hurt to try. If you try and fail, at least you know you've tried, where as if you don't try at all, you'll end up living with the regret of knowing you had the opportunity to do what you wanted and never took it.…

As humans, we are continually attempting to make sense of a constantly changing world with competing ideologies, demands and screams for attention. The forces of politics, opinion, and the pressures brought to bear in a vast array of competing and often-incongruent demands for time and attention are absorbing. Added to these societal forces are the normal risks of life, such as illness, injury, accident, loss of a loved one, ending of relationships and fluctuating economic and employment seem the primary staples of the human condition. Those that have experienced traumatic events or a life filled with adversity are often worn down by the journey they are making through life, and at times feel lost and in despair.…

Throughout our life we go through adversity, we go through it every day, every week, every month and year. You can't avoid it. An interesting quote I found is “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that a plane takes off against the wind, not with it” -Henry Ford. This quote is saying that, if you're having a tough time in life, fight it, you’ll overcome it. I choose this quote because the man who made it was a very rich inventor, he invented the first car even though he had adversities in his life.…

Sometimes life can throw you curveballs, and you may not even realize it when it happens. Part of growing up is learning how to recognize these obstacles and how to overcome them. One of the biggest obstacles I have had to overcome was realizing that I needed to surround myself with different friends. Looking back now, I can see that this issue began in early elementary school, but it wasn't until seventh grade that I realized that I felt weighed down whenever I was around my group of friends. I did a lot of self-reflection this past summer, and I decided that I deserved more.…
