The over use of texting is a major problem in forming and maintaining relationships of all sorts. Firstly, people are trying to use texting as an “easy way out” because face-to-face conversations can cause anxiety in people. Talking to someone you are not familiar with can be intimidating; for this reason, texting is the perfect solution. However, face-to-face encounters are a vital piece of maintaining a connection with another person. They provide countless advantages such as non-verbal cues, facial expression, and a more personal touch (“Ashton”). Seeing these cues as you talk to someone can enable a deeper, more intuitive conversation. In addition, people can “hide behind” their phone screens when texting.
