Outsourcing grew out of manufacturers’ concern to lower costs of production. In order to gain a competitive edge in the global economy, American business owners looked towards cheap labor offered overseas. Ultimately outsourcing led to more jobs being available for foreigners while American citizens were suffering. Outsourcing enables American businesses to become more profitable through increasing revenue. It has helped the country gain global recognition for its stable economy. Although outsourcing is beneficial for American business owners, it does not benefit the citizens of America because it leads to a decline in jobs, living standard, and confidentiality.

People in America have substantial expenses due to their high standard of living. In order to make money, individuals need jobs. People have to pay their bills and save money to enjoy a high living standard. “The impact of job loss is far-reaching: individuals, families and the entire community have all been negatively touched” (37). Job loss causes people to lose their ability to afford basic necessities. It also has a negative impact on the emotional health of people. “Unfortunately, a rapid changing post-modern economy is less uplifting, and is putting more downward pressure on millions of our fellow Americans. For the first time in our history, Americans aren’t dreaming of a better life for their children-they are desperately hoping that their children won’t be forced into a lower standard of living and lower quality of life” (39). An innumerable number of Americans are frightened by the idea of losing their job and being forced into living a lower standard life. They hope that their children will not be pushed into living their life in a stressful manner due to financial problems. The information of an employee and any other personnel in a company is usually private. The company protects information that would threaten security and its employee in any way. Through outsourcing, another company gets access to the confidential information of the American company. Every strength and weakness associated with the American company is exposed to the foreign company. Through outsourcing, foreign companies gain access to information that could potentially threaten the American company. It would not be hard for the foreign company to use the secrets of the American company in any way they please.
