Outsiders Book Comparison

Outsiders: Compare and Contrast Ponyboy is the main character. His brothers are Soda and Darry. His friends are Two-bit, Johnny, Dally, and Steve. He lives in a poor part of the city. He spends a lot of time with his friends. Him and his brothers live alone, because his parents died. Darry works two jobs and Sodapop is a dropout that works one job. Ponyboy is a smart kid that is a grade up and doesn’t use his head. They are called greasers. The rich kids are called socs. The Greasers are constantly at battle with the socs. Ponyboy, his friends and his family are all in shape. Johnny was the jumpiest boy, because of the time he got beat to death by the socs. He has a six inch blade in his pocket at all times and is not afraid to use it. The book, Outsiders, is way better than the movie on it, because the book can include things the movie can’t, the book has more background than the movie, and in the book people know what Ponyboy is thinking and feeling. Some of the similarities was that the movie had some of the same exact lines from the book such as, “I got a good chance of bein’ let off easy” (Hinton 87). Parts of the movie were exactly like the book. Including the time when Pony, Johnny, and Dally went to Dairy Queen and when Johnny got the food for them when They were at the church (Hinton 87-88). Another similarity is when both Ponyboy and Johnny watch the sunrise and Pony says out loud the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” (Coppola, The Outsiders). Some differences are that when they both start. The movie starts where they meet at the store and the book starts where Ponyboy gets beat up after walking out of the movie theaters and toward home. There was another time when the group is doing in the air somersaults before the big rumble and in the book all of them do that and in the movie only two of the characters did in the air somersaults and other
