Outsider: The One Who Struggles
Darshana wasn’t born blind.
Her biggest passion had been painting. At dawn she would paint the sun as it rose in the early morning and later after dusk, the moon and the stars in the night sky.Her artistic talents made her different from the other teenagers in her neighborhood and she liked it that way.
Going blind meant she lost more than just her sight. It meant losing most of the people she used to think were her friends, a large portion of her independence, and worst of all her art. Her being blind made her different from the other teenagers in her neighborhood and for the first time in her life she hated being different.

A baby whose face she could only interpret with what the tips of her fingers told her. A baby that she could not see. In that moment she decided that she would do whatever it took to get her sight back and it wasn’t long before she heard word of a woman who could help people as desperate as she was.
Darshana sat in her bed in the hospital's maternity ward. She could hear the loud siren from the ambulances and the beeping of medical machinery. This was one place where their was always constant noise. By her bedside was Caverly, who had been the one to drive her to the hospital late last night when the contractions had begun and had stayed since then. The sound of Caverly’s snores caused Darshana to release a sigh of relief. Her friend deserved a few hours of sleep after vigilantly watching over Darshana the entire night.
For Darshana the constant hum that the hospital emitted was something she could not miss, so when it all stopped abruptly she went into a slight panic. It was the feeling a person would get when the power went out in an elevator. Trapped. Alone.
Darshana could hear the loud clacking of heels on the tiled floors of the hospital as a subtle sulfur like smell began to fill her room. By now Caverly’s snores, the only thing that hadn’t halted, were background
