Many people who have fathers tend to look up to him, especially girls, the phrase “She’s a daddy’s girl” exists for a reason. Fathers are supposed to be the leaders of the house and guide the family down the right path and be a positive and impactful force in the lives of his children and even his spouse; however, sadly, there are many times in fiction and real life where this is anything but true. This usually involves being physically or mentally abusive, or just being purely neglectful and having an uncaring and hardened attitude. All of these things have meaning in, The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver, when the Price family is dropped suddenly and abruptly into the middle of the Congo, and they they all mean the most to the character…

One topic that has grown in popularity in our society today is gender non-conforming individuals. This may be due to public figures, different values, and media. In the article “Boys Will Be Boys? Not in These Families”, Jan Hoffman brings up many topics concerning gender non-conforming children and how our society views them. She talks about how parents, society, and the children themselves view children who do not conform to gender norms.…
Now, because I did not have my biological father with me growing up, when I had children, I purposely ensured they had validation. I raised two sons as a single mother for most of their lives. I put them through school, taught them how to respect and interact with women, and when they had children of their own, by the way, girls; they understood the importance of validating them early. And I could not be more proud of my sons how they treat their daughters, my granddaughters know the power of being validated and supported, for which I am so thankful that my sons got the lesson. They followed the blueprint that I created for them.…
In "Fathering in America: What's a Dad Supposed to Do?," Marie Hartwell-Walker observes that no matter the kind of family situation children are in, fathers are a critical part of their child's lives. Walker displays the majority of how men can father their children, but there is so much more to the important role of being their father in the child's lives. Many have heard that having a strong male influence is important in a young boy's life, but it's equally important for a daughter to have one as well. Throughout the essay, Walker repeatedly notes that more fathers are absent for all or significant periods of time of their child's life. This can either be because the fathers are unable to provide for them financially, are prohibited from seeing them, or because their father's relationship with their mother didn’t go well.…
This article relates to the Big Picture Question as in the article is talks about how men aren’t supposed to stay home but are instead supposed to go to work and earn for the family. This is a huge stereotype as not only are men not supposed to stay at home but they are also not supposed to be working jobs that typically women do. Such jobs include teach preschoolers and having a nursing job. Women, however, can do jobs that typically men do and nothing is said to them, while if a man were to stay at home they’d probably get mean things said to them.…
Immigration greatly affects how people live life and can create many differences in between generations. The parents and children in the three stores, “Who’s Irish”, “Two Kinds”, and “Children of Loneliness”, all adapt differently to moving to America. In one of the stories, “Two Kinds”, the parents are the ones to adapt quicker and believe in changing to do things and be like the other Americans. In the other two stories, the children are the ones to adapt and believe it is okay to let go of an old lifestyle. Although the parents and children are both immigrants in “Who’s Irish”, “Two Kinds” and, “Children of Loneliness”, the children and their parents have different ideas about discipline and priorities, difference of expectations, and different ways in…
Amelia has had a very good stimulation in mostly all areas of development. Such as, her cognitive, social, physical, emotional and moral development. As we watched her grow, we encouraged her to grow in areas she was interested in, at the same time suggesting activities that she might develop a passion for but letting her choose what she wanted to do. She was a very active child, she loved to attend all these active activities. When she was a little girl, she was very social, she read, played with friends, solved puzzles, played catch and other sports.…
It seemed as if my father didn’t know how to properly communicate with me. For example, if I were to do something inappropriate at school my father would always yell and fuss with me. Instead of talking with me rationally and discussing what went wrong. I never felt that I could go to my father and talk about anything. It seemed as if me and my father never had a bond.…
There is a plan to increase the probability that the decrease of physical aggression will be exhibited across multiple settings. Multiple settings may include, reading, at home with grandparents, parents, guardians, or any other activities where Taylor begins to show agitation. Taylor will eventually decrease the amount of physical aggression she shows by the teacher not letting her escape from any task, the teacher begins to realize that instead of letting her escape the task, they need to secure the safety of other students and re-present the task to Taylor. At first signs of agitation, before she becomes physically aggressive, the teacher will prompt her to ask for help or a break. This will cause Taylor not to escalate her behavior but…
Play is essential for children’s lives; author Hanna Rosin’s article “The Overprotected Kid” demonstrates how parenting styles and fear have inhibited children’s play, harming their development. Places like “The Land” are attempting to make up for the missing element in children’s play by giving them the freedom to explore and make their own decisions, and in turn accept the natural consequences. These missing aspects of play affect children physiologically. One of the culprits could be how parenting styles have changed, therefore the behavior of their children has changed. These changes did not happen randomly; they could base on the accessibility to information these days.…
In the article, “We Are Not Created Equal in Every Way”, Joan Ryan writes about a little girl who loves to dance but seemingly is not a skinny petite child. The author, who has written substantially about the pressures on young female athletes tosses out a red herring, insisting that the concern is not about Fredrika’s weight but that a child of only eight years is being thrust into such a burdensome position. My interpretation of this article is that the author is trying to validate reasons for the child to not be accepted due to her weight. Therefore, I would like to point out some of the logical flaws in her reasoning.…
Girls really look up to their father to make a strong structure in their lives, but if there is no father, girls will create an imaginary representation of who her father really is (Strauss, 2013). This set the girl’s development off track significantly. Girls without a strong father figure in their lives never go…

“If a girl has a good relationship with her father, it can be the most important and influential one of her life. If Dad says she’s intelligent, she is, if he thinks she’s great and fearless in sports, she is; if Dad says that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish, there isn’t. The praise and guidance girls receive from a strong, positive father stays with them for life” said Kirsten Houghton, an award winning and best-selling author, in the Huffington Post. Fathers will be their daughter’s biggest fans. Everyone says it’s their mom…
