Outlining Profession
Preparing for the future is an exciting but complicated experience. I am currently attending Kaplan University as the first step to becoming a dietitian. As a dietitian I may work in a variety of settings, including schools, long term care facilities, hospitals, community/public health facilities, corporate nutrition programs, the food and nutrition industry, sports nutrition or business (My Plan, 2016). After schooling I will have obtained the skills to expertly explain nutrition issues to clients, assess the dietary and health needs of clients, develop meal plans for clients, measure the effects of the meal plans, promote nutrition through public speaking and community outreach programs, and keep up with the latest research

I have high social interest, meaning I will like working with others to help them learn and grow. A career in teaching was high on the list and I believe part of being a dietitian is teaching. Other traits that go well in my field are, helping and being of service to people, listening to others, not interrupting, asking good questions and keeping track of how well people are doing in order to make improvements. Problem solving was an important trait because that skill set will help figure a way to best solve the issue in hand. Verbal abilities are also very important; communication is key to success. Different ways of communication are, communicate by speaking, listening and understanding what people say. The only area I feel I need to work on is written communication as well as becoming distracted. I have always had trouble with written communicating but with practice here at Kaplan hopefully I will beat that problem. When sat paying attention I am not referring o the clients it is the after work, such as transferring notes and charting. I have a system now that is working pretty well and I will continue to tweak it throughout my schooling hopefully making my routine perfect for my …show more content…
I graduate from Kaplan University in 2018, following a year of internship. I am giving a grace period to get my affairs together to take my exam, prepare a resume and then off to my first job. I would like to be working in a hospital setting, preferably fast pace. I like to be thrown to the wolves when I start something new, I strive in that sort of environment. I plan to stay several years in a hospital setting saving as much money as possible and then move on to private practice. I do not mind living a very simplistic lifestyle to save for my desired future. I am not saying a private practice will make me rich but it is a little more money and much more flexible hours. To maintain my CDR registration I must renew it every five years and show proof of at least 75 hours of continuing education. I will be required to find continuing education opportunities and track my completed work through the CDR’s Professional Development Portfolio. The Board of Examiners of Dietitians requires that I successfully complete the Texas Jurisprudence Exam every two years for renewal, and it must be completed to renew my license as a dietitian. Renewing the Texas license every 2 years and paying the renewal fee is mandatory (Nutrition ED, 2016). I have a few more years at Kaplan University to prepare myself for each step. I am excited for the opportunity to intern and have hands on experience, preparing myself for my career. Throughout schooling

Health and nutrition, particularly my own, is something I have taken special interest in lately as I’ve come to realize I’m rapidly approaching the second half of my life and want it to be as good as, or even better than, the first half. If I were to be asked eight weeks ago if I was a healthy person, my answer would be a resounding, “Yes;” my regular physicals and blood work confirming my response. And while I still believe that to be true, what an eye opener the Diet Analysis project was, as far as understanding my actual nutritional intake in comparison to the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) of nutrients recommended for optimal health and well-being. The following paragraphs not only detail the Diet Analysis PLUS program used for this project,…

On Wednesday, September 21st, the junior and senior class of my school went to Franklinton High School—where we were introduced to post-secondary institutions such as state universities and local community colleges. I admittedly already had a fair idea of what I planned on doing after school. My “carefully thought-out plan” was this: I would go to Northshore Technical Community College in the summer to get my CNA so that I can gain the patient-care experience necessary for my later plans for college. I would then attend LSU for four years and earn a bachelor’s in dietetics, and possibly minor in psychology. Afterward, I would attend a PA school somewhere within the US—possibly the one at LSU.…

An area of Applied Psychology 1 that has captured my interest is the field of educational psychology. This field of study is interested with children and young adults in educational and early years’ settings (British Psychology Society (BPS), 2016). This has captured my interest as children are especially vulnerable during school years, due to a variety of reasons such as low self esteem. This could be due to learning difficulties such as dyslexia and behaviourial problems. I believe that I would find it rewarding to work with children to help them develop their own skills and abilities in regards to the obstacles shown early in their life.…
