Baptism

Introduction:
Baptism is the first Sacrament of initiation and opens doors to the other sacraments. It is through Baptism that a living person enters into divine life. As CCC#1213 explains that this sacrament is a doorway where a person enters life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua). It enables a person to exit sin and enter the grace of divine life, hence, incorporating in the faith community as a Church and becoming followers of Christ. CCC#1214 suggests that immersing in the water is a way of baptizing that makes water as a matter and when the minister pronounces, “I baptize you In The Name of The Father, and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit”, this becomes the form for the sacrament …show more content…
The scripture tells that water was always there even when nothing was there and earth had no form or shape. It was just the Holy Spirit in the form of strong winds hovering the vast waters (Gen 1:1). As we progress through the story of creation, God seperated waters by making a dome and calling the above part as sky and made the dry land below. Hence, water acts as a source of life for the sacrament of Baptism in the economy of salvation. Water also acts as chaotic when God decides to wipe out people because of their sins and asks Noah to build an ark (Gen 6 & 7). Even in Noah’s case, God has a plan to baptize the earth with water by brining flood and exiting sin by destroying humans who were not worthy to be called His followers. The Holy Spirit in the form of dove is sent by Noah to see if the earth has dried (Gen 8:11). This sacrament purifies one’s sins. The scripture further explains how Moses was chosen to take Israelites out of Egypt to the Promised land. He did so because grace of God was with Moses who divided the the waters of the Red Sea. This explains how Egypt is a sign of sin and God baptizes His people out of sin by allowing them to cross the Red Sea
