Background, Statement of Need, and Stakeholders This project will finish a home’s unfinished basement and give the family of four who own the home some much needed elbow room by increasing the home’s overall finished square footage. The primary benefits to finishing a basement are the addition of a more usable space and added property value in the event the home is sold (Alure, 2016). The current basement is rarely utilized because it is unwelcoming with its poor lighting and cooler temperature. The basement structure already exists with concrete foundation walls and flooring. Transforming this space into a warm and inviting part of the home will add almost 1000 square feet of usable finished space. The addition of this finished space …show more content…
One way to deal with conflict might involve negotiation and coming up with a solution that might be a win-win opportunity for both parties. Win-win negotiation involves a shared benefit that concentrates on satisfying both sides and keeping everyone happy instead of one’s own personal gain (Power, 2015). Disagreements will always arise and those that are capable of turning disagreement and conflict into positives can improve relationships that have the potential to lead to long term growth.

The GANNT chart identified the critical path through the project as the same 42 days laid out in the scope of work. This particular basement finish project does not have any slack time as every task falls on the critical path. Slack time can be defined as the difference between the length of a path and the length of the critical path (Business Dictionary, 2016). While some of the tasks such as paint can be completed in as little as one day they cannot be completed until previous tasks are accomplished. For example, the basement walls cannot be painted until the walls are textured, the walls cannot be textured until the drywall compound is installed, the drywall compound cannot be installed until the drywall has been hung, the drywall cannot be hung until the walls have been framed, and so on. Since this basement finish project has no slack time any task delay will cause a chain reaction that will ultimately cause the project to miss its anticipated completion

As Helen Keller once said, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you will not see a shadow.” This can also mean that the most effective way of getting through a crisis is to have a positive outlook, and not to focus on the negatives. In Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl — a series of journal entries that Anne Frank wrote while she and her family were hiding from the Nazi regime — Anne attempts to have a positive attitude no matter what the circumstances. She fought for her own life and for her loved ones’ lives, and her mental strength is one reason why she made it as long as she did. If she hadn’t looked on the bright side, despite her bleak situation, she would've never had the faith or will to survive.…
