The general was being nice to Rainsford by offering dinner and clothes to a stranger who got off the yacht. This is telling the readers to always be nice to people no matter what, even if they are in rough conditions. This would cause suspension in the story to the readers because it would make you wonder why General Zaroff is being so nice to Rainsford. Another example, when General Zaroff was talking to Rainsford about going hunting with him, Rainsford said,“ Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if needs be, taken by the strong. This means that the reader is explaining that when you are stronger, you get further in life.
