Frank Trippett, in his excerpt, claims that the increasing count of americans in today's day and age are consistently breaking the law. The author supports his assertion by first explaining the fact that, even though many people only break minor laws, they should still consider themselves as law breakers. He continues by listing minor laws that people break everyday and are careless to the fact that they what they are doing is illegal. The author’s purpose is to make people aware of their actions and make them realize that what they have been doing, though it may be minor, is wrong and they should make better choices. Society as a whole should follow all laws, no matter how silly they might seem, because they are put into action for a reason; Whether it be because it is to protect one from one’s self or to protect one from others.…

It may not be apparent to many when going about their day that they could potentially be breaking laws. Frank Trippett in his article claims that many people break laws everyday without even noticing it whether it be jaywalking, littering, or even just being too loud in a public domain. Some people would feel as if everybody should know the laws and know that, for example, jaywalking is illegal, many of us know this but for the young kids who have never been talked to or confronted by the police would not be aware to these laws which therefore would lead them to just be “crossing the street” cause they did not want to wait at the light. Many people break laws all the time, most are aware when they do, but others are not as educated about the law system or how it works or what laws even actually exist.…

There is an immoderate amount of waste that can be found in the laneways of Melbourne due to improper disposal of waste products. In countless laneways and streets, coffee cups, used tissues, half-eaten foods, gum wrappers, and several other rubbish. Although there are rubbish bins that were found located in quite a number of locations, and signs stating ‘No Dumping’(see figure 6), it is evident that there is quite a number of people who choose to avoid using these bins and decide to disobey this rule. However, the amount of rubbish seems to differ highly depending on how frequently the laneway was found.…

An outlet mall in Southern California was full of shoppers, entering and exiting the various stores. As groups of people left the food court around lunch hour, they sipped their coffee. Once they finished their drinks, despite the nearby trash cans, they dropped their cups onto the ground and casually walked off. This is simply one example of littering in our society, but if this issue is not resolved, the ecosystem will suffer greatly. Victorian Litter Action Alliance’s “Litter Statistics Fact Sheet” stresses that as a result of littering, “1 million sea birds and 100,000 marine animals die each year after becoming entangled in or ingesting litter”, which reveals the major impact littering has on our ecosystem (1).…

This term, my group for the Eco Action project decided to undertake a garbage cleanup in hopes of making our targeted area garbage-free by the end of our three-month timespan. My group—which consisted of Cole, Matt and Jed—aimed to influence others by eliminating the garbage in the forest, which would make others less inclined to litter. Although we face many challenges throughout the term, in the end we made a difference in the cleanliness of the trail, which is why we deem our project to be successful. In this essay, I will address the effects of litter in forests, why waste reduction in forests is important and the key points of our Mystic…
