B. Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the effects of what bullying in schools have on our generation.
C. Central Idea: Bullying in schools can lead towards stunted growth in our children academically and in their personal lives at home. The effects of bullying is causing many psychological problems such as low self-esteem and more, which is taking a major toll on our children leading to bigger problems such as depression, anxiety and in worst case scenarios, suicidal thoughts and/or suicide.

Bullying can affect the entire family. It can cause secrecy towards parents, irritability, withdrawal, lying, self-doubt, and lack of trust. ( Shepeil.fgi)
B. How low self-esteem caused from bullying can take a major toll on growing children.
1. Martin Teicher, a psychiatrist, did a study on low self-esteem caused from bullying called “Teicher Study”. He states that “victims of bullying frequently have problems with memory, concentration and attention. (Teicher Study)
2. Daniel Peterson, out of Chicago Medical School studied bullying and the effects it had on rat’s brains. One session of bullying altered a bullied rats brain. When new brain cells were still producing at a normal rate, a large percentage of new cells were dying before they were fully matured. (Daniel Peterson)
C. Bullying can cause long term problems such as depression, psychological problems, suicidal thoughts and/or suicide.
1. Chronic bullying effects a person’s socioeconomic status, social life and even cognitive function that persists decades later. (Arseneaults Research)
2. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young adults according to the CDC. A study in Britain found that at least half of these suicides is related to bullying.
