Research question: Should animal experimentation be conducted?
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study For the past five decades, there has been a widespread argument for the use of animals in medical science and product testing which is controversial. By looked through medical perception, it undeniable sometimes animals testing have made a valuable contribution to human health. However, looked at another site, animal tests often cause serious damage and even death towards animals. At the early 1980s, animals were viewed as unfeeling property whose purpose in life was to benefit to humans. Thus, animal experimentation considered as a multi-billion dollars industry which requires a massive amount of money to support and consumes a longer time. Taking a human disease, AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) that caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) as an example. This disease was examined by many scientists for a donkey’s years but still no effectively available for humans. According to Steve Connor’s report (2008), the data collected showed at least 85 HIV/AIDS vaccines have been proven successful in nonhuman primate studies, however it was failed to protect humans, none was showed effective in work. At the same time, it brought side effect that increased human’s chance of HIV infection, spreading. World Health Organization (2016) states that approximately US$ 500 million global investment per year was spent for research of HIV. At a certain point, instead of spending money at animal experimentations, it will be more beneficial for spending money on improving infrastructure and development of education level which subsequently has led to an increment on living
