On the night of December 16, 1773, Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty boarded three ships in the Boston harbor dressed as Indians and armed with hatchets and threw 342 chests of tea overboard. The chests held more than 90,000 pounds of tea, which would cost nearly $1,000,000 dollars today. This act was called the Boston Tea Party and was in retaliation of the harsh British taxes. The combination of the harsh taxes, laws and the lack of an American voice in Parliament gave rise to the already tense relations between the two countries, which would ultimately result in the Revolutionary war. In this case the outlier theory proved correct and the Americans won the war. The Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris, France on September 3, 1783. It ended the war with the British, and gave the Americans independence. The war ultimately resulted in the forming of the United States of America. Many important documents were also formed including the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights.
