Stephen Hawking, one of the most respected physicist, was born on January 8th 1942 in Oxford, England. A majority of people believe the reason why Stephen Hawking is successful is because he was brilliant. Without a doubt this is true, but there are numerous other factors that lead him to become an author and a respected physicist. The award winning book titled Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell explains that success is not solely due to hard work and determination. He explains the advantages by giving examples of highly successful people such as Bill Gates. Gladwell states that the time period of birth is an important factor for Bill Gates’ success. Stephen Hawking was born in the perfect time because he had opportunities to nurture and expand his passion for learning how and why things work the way they do. He was also born when his mother decided to take a trip to Spain, where Stephen defied and questioned the bible after being forced to analyze it by his teacher. Throughout his elementary education he was put on top of his class. This caused him to have an advantage over other children his age that were put in lower groups. Over time, the education he received from his group contributed to his overall success. This might sound odd, but one of Stephen Hawking’s key factor to his success will, eventually, be his downfall. His disease caused him to have more time to think in his brain rather than do physical activates. Stephen being diagnosed with ALS gave him a wakeup call to become something better in life. ALS gave him the push he needed to get his PhD, and eventually become one of the greatest minds in the history of
