Do you feel offended when someone bares their shoulders? How about when someone wears pajama bottoms or slippers? What if a boy has long hair, earrings, and a dress? These are just a few issues with dress code in schools. Schools are not allowing students to express themselves freely. This is an issue we must change.
School dress codes are meant to keep students from being distracted, to help them learn better. While this may help little situations, there are schools discriminating their students. In Florida, students were publicly shamed for violating dress code by being forced to wear "shame suits" (Gabrielle Sorto, CNN). In fact, schools are making a negative effect by sending these kids home or putting them in isolation. We are denying our students an education by …show more content…
People go to school to get an education. If we let administrators get away with favoring a few and severely punishing the rest, we are taking away our children's education.
Once these students grow into adults, what would they teach their children about the 'appropriate clothing' for public? Would they also teach that it's okay to sexualize women? We need to think before we judge others apparel.
