To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee in 1960. The book was set in Maycomb County, Alabama during the Great Depression. Within the book, Lee defines courage as “when you know you’re licked before you being but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” (112) Courage plays a huge role in To Kill a Mockingbird, the story of two children that are being raised in an unfair world contaminated with racism, sexism, and much more.
