Out Of The Easy Literary Analysis

While reading the book Out of the Easy you learn that the setting is in New Orleans, and the year is 1950. New Orleans is a dirty city filled with people that all have one goal... to make money. In the 1950’s being a prostitute was illegal, but that was how many women earned a steady income. Josie Moraine is the main character in the book, and her mother is a prostitute. “My mother is a prostitute” (1). Josie learns that New Orleans is not right for her and also has nothing to offer her except for the easy route of becoming a prostitute. “I was nothing like Mother” (8). The city of New Orleans is big and has many secrets, and Josie wants to make something of herself. “I was getting out of New Orleans” (10).
