Out-Of-State Case Study

Another out-of-state graduated shared with me that he graduated with a 3.3 GPA, and he completed his college education in five years. He shared that his academic success was based on holding himself accountable as to rather he wanted to go to college or not. He didn’t believe that he had to overcome factors, but he knew that his parents could not afford to pay his tuition, but he received financial aid as well as scholarships to pay for it. He didn’t see being an African American male as a disadvantage in attending Morehead State University. He had heard chatter of ethnic conflicts, but it never interrupted his goals though he felt that this may affect others. He felt that attending college and because of sports, ultimately it was a way out and towards better living conditions from where he came from. Another example of an African American male showing resiliency and resistant. He had the ability, capacity, and the powers to allow him to rise above adversity (Bush & Bush, 2013). He received the finances which allowed him to persist.
Some of the motivational factors that assisted him in college was his family. He understood that if he graduated and went into a good occupation, he would be able to help his family out. His father was another factor which assisted him. The graduated debated about living the institution to move to

College was easy for him because he was academically prepared for college, and he was a part of the Summer Success Program that allowed him to have a jump start his freshmen year. He had a mentors who were persistent on him about his grades. He lacked motivation some because school was boring, but his mentor and coaches kept him engaged and he also had two roommates who had GPAs that were over 3.0 so they pushed and challenged him to do well. He didn’t want to have the lowest GPA in the house. His family was very supportive of him while he was in
