Out Of Bounds In Soccer

Decent Essays
During the soccer unit I made many calls including: offsides, out of bounds, hand ball, pushing, and goal. The call that occurred most often was out of bounds, which happened about 5 times throughout my refereeing experience. Out of bounds was the easiest call to make because you can see it happen from many directions, and it is not really a judgement call. The hardest call to make was the offsides penalty. This was the hardest because I was unfamiliar with the rule. It was also hard to make offsides calls because it can be a judgement call, and sometimes you are focusing on the ball handler and it is easy to miss an offsides call. It is much easier to call out of bounds because you are watching the ball and you can usually see if it went out. …show more content…
I missed some hand ball calls because when you are far from the player that commits the foul, or he has his back to you, it can be hard to see where the ball makes contact. I found that it was very beneficial to have one of more referees along side me. Games had better calls when there were several referees because they could see more of the court/field. I have refereed games by my self, and sometimes it was difficult to keep up with the play and see all of the calls. For example, one day when I was refereeing, I was running by the ball and was focusing on the ball handler. Because of this, I missed several offsides calls. Over my refereeing experience, I saw a lot of contact between players. There were many times when I saw players push each other or make contact, and I didn't make a call because it did not affect the play or it helped the team of the player that was fouled. I also did not make calls when the contact was equal between both players and neither got an advantage from

In the past, games were called, won and lost, based completely on the visual evidence and word of the referees. It was a human interaction with consequences and faults, which is what makes all of us human, and made the sporting event “real”. Now games are controlled by machines, where the outcome can be decided by the evidence of a camera. Leaving fans, players, and teams wondering what might have been if the call was left alone. ("Upon further review: Instant replay takes away from immediacy of sport - NBC Sports | NBC Sports," n.d.) When we look back on the evolution of instant replay, we can see the many games and lives it has changed based on the outcome of entire seasons of sporting events.…

Also, the league has given certified athletic trainers who are stationed in sky boxes at each game the authority to stop play with the touch of a button if they see a player who is exhibiting notable signs of injury, even if he was hurt in a previous play(Reyes.)” Another way to prevent concussions is by checking playing fields for hazards that could contribute to an accident. First of all, this is a fact that referees make mistakes because they need to make at least hundreds of calls during basketball games and that is understandable that not all of them going to be correct. The worst thing is that sometimes games or even championships are decided due to a bad call from the referee. Another reason is that every referee has a unique style of refereeing or different perception about certain rules and situations. However, this can be eliminated if instant review would be implemented and then referees would have an opportunity to watch the replay and discuss what is the best call for a particular situation. On the other hand, this is going to be a hard transition to the new system because the referees always been a part of the game, and some people might not like to see those changes.…

When it comes to rules in sports it is for player’s safety and it keeps the game fair. The goal of rules is to keep the level of the game at a minimum of fairness between two teams going against each other. The more rules are in place the more not entertaining the sport will become for example college football. Every defensive player wants to make a big hit and gets their team fired up but most of the time they get flagged for helmet to helmet contact. That can lead to targeting rule ejection which puts a hold on the game because all targeting penalties are reviewed this rule was enforce to mainly protect defenseless players.…

Back then the player used to practice with their head to tackle their opponent. Therefore, there have been implements of new techniques of how to tackle without having your head experiencing a collision. Another essential point is the case of the size of the player the bigger ones may inflict way, more power to a smaller guy that vise versa. Positives of having this reaction is that you care a lot about the team and your reaction shows that your team can do better and are better than that to try and boost the team to try harder.…

    No Handball Violation

A handball violation is to be called only when the hand plays the ball. If the ball is kicked into the hand and the ball bounces away without the hand (or arm) redirecting or otherwise controlling the ball, then there is no handball violation. A particular case in point is on the occasion of a free kick and the defenders align themselves into a defensive wall. They may position their hands and arms to protect themselves and, if the ball is kicked into them and hits the arm or hand without the player moving from the protective position, then no handball violation is to be called. There is also no handball violation called when a player is very close to an opponent who kicks the ball directly into his/her hand or arm.…
