Health promotion is the process of advertising the importance of peoples ability to control and improve their health. It is a way of enabling people to reach a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion is the name of an international agreement organized by the World Health Organization. The agreement focuses on targeting communities, governments, and companies in order to achieve ‘Health for all’ and an overall better lifestyle for everyone. By allowing people acess to these sites, they have the information they would need in order to seek help for themselves or someone they know. One of the most well-known of these sites is Beyond Blue. This site provides fact sheets of a range of mental healh issues, it is easy to access and free. By allowing people access to this information, they are given the techniques they need to tackle the issues they could be facing. Beyond Blue provides countless examples of Developing Personal Skills and how it can help someone. These strategies are easy for people to access when necessary and provides them with the tools they need to cope with issues they could be facing. Having somewhere to talk to about mental illness is an important part of taking the stress out of situations like this. Although having these tools can be useful to some people, many peoples situations are different. These resources are of course available for anyone to use, but that does not mean that everyone will use them. No one is under any obligation to seek help, this means that they are many people who choose to avoid websites like this. This can become a problem for people who do not believe they are in need of any help. A large amount of people are oblivious to the fact that they may not be mentally healthy and because of that, they would be reluctant to seek help. Websites like this also encourage people to speak to a friend or family member about how they may be feeling. This action is unavailable to many people who are seeking help as they may not have a someone available to offer them this kind of support. Therefore, this action is unfitting for a large amount of the population. Although Developing Personal Skills has proven to be an effective action in some areas of society, it has also proven to be an action that can only influence a small group of people.
