As a physician I intend to pursue a career with a broad range of opportunities to practice medicine in clinical, surgical and academic fields. In addition, I hope to cater to patients of all ages and from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Consequently, I am interested in Otolaryngology as it has the comprehensive qualities I am looking for in for a career. Furthermore, the head and neck region require sophisticated set of skills and knowledge that will challenge me as a physician. Therefore, I hope that through getting involved in research in this field, I will gain an insightful understanding of otolaryngology and develope skills …show more content…
Besides that I am assisting a Resident in the department of Liver transplant with his research during the summer. However, that project does not require a lot of time commitment and therefore, I will essentially be available to work on an ENT research project for the rest of the summer starting June 18th.
How many hours per week are you willing to dedicate to research?
I am willing to dedicate 40 to 60 hours a week for research starting June 18th, 2018.

From Fall 2014 to Fall 2015, I worked with Dr. Nancy Woychik in order to investigate the role of toxin-antitoxin systems, particularly those involving VapC27 and VapC28 genes, in conferring persistence to tuberculosis. Starting Fall 2015, to Spring 2017, I worked in the lab of Dr. Michael Chikindas where I was responsible for screening naturally derived molecules for quorum sensing inhibition of AI-2 in Gram positive bacteria using Staphylococcus aureus as a reference organism. This culminated in my contributions to the paper entitled “Gemini Cationic Amphiphiles Control Biofilm Formation by Bacterial Vaginosis Pathogens” in the Journal of Antimicrobial Agents and
