In 1972, Germany was hosting the Summer Olympic for the first time since Hitler’s 1936 Olympics. Otl Aicher was commissioned with the task of designing pictograms and posters for this worldwide event. Aicher was determined to redesign the German image for all the world to see. Otl Aicher was born in Nazi Germany and was recruited to fight in the second world war. Aicher ran away from war for fighting against his own beliefs. After removing all of Hitler’s influence in his design, Otl went with a design that was neutral, elegant, and easy to read, stick figures.
