Othello Tragic Hero Essay

Othello is a true tragic hero because his story strictly adheres to Aristtoles rules of being a tragic hero. Directly parallel to Aristotle’s definition which is the the tragic hero starting out as a great man, and then being defeated by their own mistake. My supporiting evidence to solidfy this claim is that Othello was a great man, created by his military prowess, and his tragic mistake of trusting lago and not his newlywed wife brings him to his own demise, but shortly before, he has a moment of recognition where he gains insight into all the wrong he has done. By the definition provided by Aristotle, Othello is most definitely displayed as a tragic hero, as he follows the given criteria excellently, in an unfortunate manner. This mistake is trusting the wrong person and is caused by Othello’s chractreristic of bein too trusting. Lago then poinsons and cloud Othellos’s mind with lies, which put him under a constant barrage of seizsure and also a new hate for his wife and her supposed lover. This trusting of the wring person is a perfect example of a tragic mistake that leads to a tragic heros downfall. The third reason as to why Othello is a tragic hero is that at the very end of the story, he realizes with horror that Lago has been lying to him the whole time, playing him as a pawn in his game of deception, he realizes he wants to be remembered as the man he was before, and not the man he has became. Subsequently, Othello plugnes his sword into himself and dies a man not easily made jealous, but maddened and tormented to his very core when it happened. In conclusion, Othello is a tragic hero, he is someone who toppled down from the throne of nobleness and purity all the way to his downfall, all because of a few tragic
