Othello Love And Marriage Analysis

Love and marriage is another theme shared in both literature works yet the love for someone can make you do thing that you don’t want to do. Othello and the moor killed the love of their life in a horrible situation. Disdemona and the Moor have been married for some time then just a day in Othello. This changes they dynamic of their relationship they should have a solid foundation and the Moor should have become easily jealousy. The moor starts to lose his sense of mind and Disdemona start to doubt her marriage. “…but you Moors are of hot a nature that every little triffle moves you to anger and revenge” (Taylor 19) this comment would never cross Desdemona mind she is blindly in love with Othello. In their travel their love for each other grows strong but Iago use simple action of Cassio and Desdemona to manipulate Othello. The key proof of the affair is Othello’s gift to Desdemona a handkerchief the material good is the success of Iago plot. Andrew Sofer the handkerchief is an item of doom and it cause “first three characters are dead, fourth faces torture and death, the fifth is wounded and the sixth is in prison”. The handcheif is like magic without it “iago lies would not stick”(Sofer) . Desdemona blinded by her love for Othello to the very last moment she still love him even he kill her on their wedding sheets. The wedding sheets represent her devoted love of Othello. The death of both Desdemona and Disdemona are very different to each other. In Cinthio’s tale both the moor and ensign kill her by beating her then collapsing a roof on top if her. While Desdemona, Othello smother her with a pillow he believe he was releasing her from the infidelity she commit to go to heaven. Othello’s jealousy is so powerful he becomes crazy and has fit that are seizures .Also Othello’s race plays a part he has to work harder to make sure he not look down on his status means a lot. Even Othello believes the “infidelity” is by “[Desdemona] that was as fresh/As Dian’s visage is now begrimed and black/As mine own face” (III.3.383-385). Othello believe his wife infidelity soil his name and he say she become as black as he is. Othello show his insecurities by the color of his skin he fell tainted. Martin Okin argues how Englishmen “saw the native of Africa as barbarous, treacherous, libidinous and jealous” which the traits are use in both Shakespeare and Cinthio tale. More so this shows how race does play a role in Othello and how others view him. In Cinthio not seen right but with the Moor status allows them to marry. In secret Othello and Desdemona married, the governor sees him a witch that cast a spell on his daughter. The Moor downfall in the Cinthio’s tale is that he is put to death by Disdemona family which this seems to be the heavenly punishment for ending her life. Othello ending is different his down fall he realized what the crime he committed, he lost his most beloved person Desdemona.
