Othello Second In Command Analysis

Improved Essays
I am a man that is worth a thousand times more than a pity position as ancient. I am worthy to be the heir of second-in-command. If Othello holds me dear, I ask why he rewarded me the position of a flag boy. Because of this disrespect, I can no longer love Othello, for he disgraced me, and he cannot be my master no longer. The great general that the people praise him to be is nothing but an ass; a fool for choosing a "wise man” as second-in-command. Has he not seen my superb performance in the battle, and is he not aware of my forever lasting faithfulness that was to be. I will begin my schemes by informing Brabantio his precious jewel has been stolen by the hands of the Moor. I will describe the moor 's lewd intentions by mentioning mixed-race …show more content…
How pathetic! He went into a hypnotic state because of his tramp wife. My plans are the Holy Grail! I indeed mock your feebleness; who on this planet gives into a trance caused by the thoughts of a diminutive worth of a wife? How does a man of high nobility and reputation fall lower than the pits of hell? Cassio, you ridicule Bianca for being a "huswife", but she will no longer bring you excessive laughter because I have acquired her. Poor Cassio, your flawless behavior and smiles will be seen as a dark abyss, darker than the Moor 's skin, and your righteousness will now be transcended by atrocious intentions n the eyes of Othello. Bingo! Show Othello how you ridicule others without doubt; wreck your reputation even further. Show him how you toy with women 's emotions by insulting Bianca 's love she offers to you but you toss aside. Show him how you give away Othello 's prized handkerchief to any women. Othello has finally lost his sane mind! He is talking murder! Now we seek the same path of homicide. He shall strangle Desdemona in her deathbed, meanwhile he leaves me with Cassio to take as prey. Yes, how he has changed Lodovico. He no longer hesitates to strike his wife. What solid virtue and true nature does he hold now? How hilarious! Othello now disregards her name and labels her as a whore. That Emilia does not know when to keep quiet; she must not be aware someone is behind this dilemma. Certainly the …show more content…
Looking back at it, all of it could have been avoided if I was given my proper role in the military. Evildoers will be always wise. Honest men only stay behind and get nowhere near glory. This I know from personal experience; I was the most faithful to Othello, I loved him more as my lord than Desdemona. Then, I got a pitiful position as an ancient. If he does not love me and have the same level of faith in me after those battles we fought together, then he viewed me as a fool. Tell me Othello, was Cassio 's intelligence in the battlefield the reason for choosing him over me? If that is true, then also tell me if Cassio was as wise to carry out a manipulative plan and did he acquire the role of a puppeteer? In the end, I managed to play the role of an ancient by staying at your side at all times, and therefore having a great influence on you. I highly admired you and perhaps despised you for your excellent reputation you had. I may have overlooked that resentment if you would have given me a higher position that got me closer to yours. Maybe that is what you lacked, a strong heart. Despite you being a great war general, you were a Moor that sought affection. Those relationships you formed was what caused the end for you. I was not at fault for your

Othello allows himself to be poisoned and muddled by Iago’s fallacious words (Anand, 77). When Iago spins his lies of Desdemona’s adulterous actions with Cassio, Othello decides instead of consulting Desdemona or Cassio directly, he allows time for Iago to show him evidence of Desdemona’s unfaithfulness. This time allotted to Iago is time for him to conspire against Othello. As such, Othello’s “tragic flaw” lies in his inability to properly communicate with others. His and Desdemona’s death was a result of Othello’s own vulnerability, not necessarily Iago’s ingenuity (Christofides, 6).…

Instead of becoming angry, Othello shows his lack of concern by saying, “Let [Brabantio] do his spite” (Othello 1.2.18). The audience pities Othello as his mind deteriorates, but this turns to anger when he vows to kill Desdemona; hits her; and calls her a “devil” (Othello 4.1.171-232).…

Shakespeare’s Othello is one of his most interesting and controversial plays that really gets at the heart of human nature and questions the concept of perception and people’s relationships with one another. In the play, Othello, a successful general in the Venetian military, is led into jealousy and violence towards his wife from the lies of “honest” Iago. Various scholars of the play have attempted to explain Othello’s character and how such a high-status, noble man could have so easily descended into a simple vengeous murderer. Many theorize that behind Othello’s fragile facade of pride and nobility is a deep-rooted insecurity and naivety that leads him to be suspicious, and later, violent.…

Othello becomes a tragedy of incomprehension where hate, manipulation and revenge derive from the arrogant and blinded nature of the characters and their interactions with one another. Within the Aristotelian tragedy of ‘Othello’, the attribute of incomprehension creates the ultimate downfall of Othello through Rodrigo’s initial and prevalent manipulation by Iago to further his plans, Iago’s inability to comprehend Othello’s genuine trust for him which fuels his blinded revenge and Othello’s incomprehension of Desdemona’s loyalty towards him which leads to his jealous rage and in turn, his death. Alongside Othello’s gradual buildup of jealousy throughout the play by Iago’s masterful plans, the downfall of Othello ultimately demonstrates the…
