Casting actors for a film version of Shakespeare’s Othello could become a challenging task. Shakespeare’s play complexity and long speeches present a difficult undertaking even for the most talented and skilled individuals in today’s film industry pool of actors. Therefore, we most carefully exam the play’s characters and search for candidates that can be paired, not only to the physical attributes of the character, but more importantly to the complexity in language, speech, and performance required for the part. A group of actors that could possibly perform the parts of Othello, Desdemona, and Iago might be Denzel Washington, Amy Adams, and Russell Crowe respectively. Each actor possesses the attributes and skills to perform at the required complexity, speech, and performance level.

Her performance in the movie Enchated is evidence of her great ability as an actress and as a theatrical singing performer. In her role as Desdemona—a young woman who loves and venerates her husband ignoring the will of her father—she will rise to the top by tackling Shakespeare’s long speeches and complex poetry. Adams amazing charisma will help her win the audience as she portrays the lovely and beautiful Desdemona, who’s fidelity is unjustly questioned as part of an evil plan to destroy her husband. Her singing talent will allow her to deliver Desdemona’s song, just as Shakespeare intended. Through her, the entire audience will be able to experience Desdemona’s sorrow about her husband.
