He was a soldier who came from Africa, with a reputation of being a military hero. Othello chose a young and less experienced soldier to be second in command, Michael Cassio. Jealous, Iago believed that he was more qualified for the second in command position and so he planned to get revenge on Othello. Iago was two-faced, he planned to ruin Othello while pretending to be his friend. Roderigo is someone who also hates Othello because he was in love with Othello’s wife, Desdemona. He then Unites with Iago to harm Othello so he can get Desdemona’s love. Jealousy is a bitter emotion or feeling towards someone who takes what is yours.In Othello, William Shakespeare created the most evil person in all of literature, Iago. Othello wanted evidence of Desdemona cheating on him. Iago’s evidence was Cassio’s so-called wild dream about Desdemona. Iago told Othello that one night Cassio slept over Iago’s house and Cassio had a wild dream about his wife. Iago said that while Cassio was sleeping he cried out “Sweet Desdemona.”. Cassio next got out of his sleep and kissed Iago’s hand. Cassio then threw his legs on top of Iago’s lap and kissed him because he thought Iago was Desdemona. Iago lied to Othello.
