Good morning fellow aspiring directors, I’m here today from the Australian Film School and will be discussing the well known play Othello by Shakespeare, the play to this day is still very relevant, Shakespeare has done this by incorporating the themes jealousy, appearance and reality and racism which still occurs in our society today and can often appear in our day to day life. By including these themes in the play it keeps the relationship with the now modern audience despite the original plays age. This is seen in Geoffrey Sax’s 2001 film Othello, where Geoffrey has appropriated the film following the original plot but has changed many aspects of Shakespeare’s Othello to suit todays audience, while keeping the themes showing the same universal…

Scene Analysis Assignment William Shakespeare’s play Othello is a tragedy about a man named Othello who gets tricked by his jealous friend Iago into believing that his wife has been unfaithful to him. In the play, Iago tricks and manipulates many characters into doing what he wants, especially the character Roderigo. Roderigo is a gullible Venetian gentleman that longs to be with Othello’s wife Desdemona. In Act 1 Scene 3, Shakespeare shows his reader how manipulative and deceitful Iago can be through his dialogue with Roderigo. I am not familiar with Shakespeare other than the fact that he is supposedly a well-known modern English writer. Perhaps I’m simply not into his style of writing, but the story line in Othello just isn’t adding up. Surly he could have added more sophisticated twist, and spiced up the plot to make it more realistic and relatable. I find it strange that a newly married general would hang onto every word that one of his subordinates was insinuating about the faithfulness of his wife. Othello and Desdemona just recently confessed their love in front of the senate.…

In the William Shakespeare’s play Othello, Emilia and Desdemona are the major female characters that are remarkably notable in the play. When the two are separated and looked at they are two completely different individuals who come from different backgrounds. While Desdemona comes from an upper class family very wealthy and prosperous, Emilia comes from a middle class family comfortable and probably in those times what would be considered an average normal family. In principle, few individuals would consider the characters of the two ladies to be similar.…

Desdemona on the other hand had long black/brown hair with large teeth and a squared face. She looked older and taller than what I had in mind.…
