Cassio's a proper man. Let me see now to get his place and to plume up my will In double knavery. Othello is a play written by William shakespeare. In Othello there is a man named Iago who is a soldier that wants to be Othello’s Lieutenant but a man named Cassio is named Lieutenant. Othello marries Desdemona and Iago is upset that she is with a Moor. Iago is Jealous of Othello and Cassio and he ironically uses jealousness to destroy both Cassio and Othello.
Iago shows jealousness of Cassio because Cassio is chosen by othello to be lieutenant. He is jealous because he wanted to be lieutenant and he feels like he has the experience to be Othello's lieutenant. He doesn't think that cassio has the experience saying in (I I 21) “A fellow almost damn’d in a fair wife that never set a squadron in the field.”. Iago also shows jealousness towards Othello because Othello is with Desdemona a pure woman that he has feelings for. We can see that Iago is jealous of Othello and Desdemona by having the idea to awake Desdemona father in (I I 72) “Rouse him:- make after him, poison his delight.”. He first spreads a rumor that Desdemona and Cassio have an affair which makes Othello jealous that cassio slept with his wife. Iago brings it up to him saying (4. 1. 37) “Ha! I like not that.” then othello questions him about it and he confesses it was Cassio. Othello is not certain that she is having an affair thinking they are just friends then Iago says (4. 1. 6-7) “or to be naked with her friend in bed an hour or more, and not mean harm” by saying this Othello starts to believe it. Iago brings out Othello’s bad qualities by making him jealous that Cassio and his wife slept together, eventually making Cassio kill
