Heavy tension on race can be observed in both the play and the movie. Othello is a black man who is the head of the army and is known for his bravery and powerful skill in war, Odin is the star and only black basketball player on his high school team and whole high school. Although the racial undertone is shown more in the movie than it is in the play, it does show that Othello/Odin is seen as different and as an outsider by the rest of the community. Iago/Hugo are jealous of his success and want to put Odin and Cassio back to their place. Odin like Othello lets jealousy and insecurities get to their head and get in the way of their rational thoughts.
