There are so many famous Latin American Painters, but this one is not recognized today for his talent of overcoming struggles and of course, art. Fundación Guayasamín
Before he died, famous Latino painter Oswaldo Guayasamin founded an organization called Fundación Guayasamin. He founded it with his sons, and promised to donate all of his artistic heritage to Ecuador. It was his home country, after all. He based it off of places that became a “Slaughterhouse of Humanity” during the 20th century. He had several pieces about historical moments and notorious people. Some of them were the Nazi concentration camps from 1935 to 1945, the Spanish civil war in 1936, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, and the Bay of Pigs in Cuba, a failed military invasion.

3. Nelson Rockefeller went to his first exhibition
During his first ever exhibition, the current Vice President, Nelson Rockefeller, attended. Guayasamin was told that his artwork was impressive, and the man ended up buying about 5 pieces. He then proceeded to invite the artist to expose his art in America as well. During Oswaldo’s 7 month visit, he learned about the work of other artists, which would soon inspire his own.
4. He was kicked out of 6 colleges for a “lack of talent”
It was no secret that Guayasamin was a strange yet whimsical kid. His father and mother only wanted him to be normal like his other siblings. It only got more difficult when he went to school.
