Wild ostriches live in the woodlands, dry, hot savannahs and of Africa. First they were spread out over whole Asia, Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, but because of hunters, who were really hunted down, the wild ostriches' range has been reduced, so only they are left in the sub-Saharan Africa. However, you can find ostriches all over the world, like in zoos for instance.
2. Natural environment (habitat) i.e. desert, tropical forest, sea, etc.
The habitat of is variable. They are found all over the world in the wild, most of them in the desert in Africa. Ostriches can adept to their environment. It shows how they survived 120 million years, on being on …show more content…
They are able to walk on sand because of their feet, which have fraction on them.
They can also live in the colder parts of the Earth. A lot of people wouldn’t expect that. Also a non-expectable place is the tropical rain forest, or the, so-called, equatorial forest zone.
Also, they can be found in the grasslands. It is a place where isn’t much to offer, but they do live there. The reason why is because they don’t need that much water (they don’t have to drink water, as the food they eat contain a lot of water. As they don’t have to, they still drink water). Also, they live in large groups. When they are in large groups, it is easier for them to survive (and harder when they are alone or with small groups).
Ostriches can actually live anywhere, as long as they have food, water and a shelter, they can adapt to their habitat. Also the habitat around them changes, adaptable for the ostriches.
In the zoo you can see they live in a dry, muddy way. You can see trees, shelters and a lot of mud. They share their territory with zebra’s, so part of it is made out of stone (it’s the part where they get their food). But the dry, muddy part is the habitat they live in, in the …show more content…
The gizzard is a small pouch where the food is ripped and crushed up before it reaches the stomach.
4. Behaviour in the zoo, regarding: a: social life, i.e. is the animal living alone or in groups?
The animals in the zoo live in groups. Although share their territory with the zebra’s, they don’t come in the others territory often.
b: Aggression, i.e. does the animal defend its territory?
They aren’t defending their territory, although there are double fences around their cage. I haven’t seen a zebra walking into the ostrich’s territory, but I have seen ostriches walking in the zebra’s territory, because the ostriches got their food in that territory.
c: Movement, i.e. is the Animal very active or very inert?
They do move and play a little with each other, but not that much. Compared to the zebras, the ostriches were very active. They ran sometimes and one ostrich came and look what was happening when I was taking pictures. They really went in a group, for example: when I was taking pictures, one ostrich came and look. 30 seconds later, more came and look. It was fun to see and I made some really nice pictures, but you can’t see them moving on the
