Osteopathic Physician

Decent Essays
I was inspired to become an osteopathic physician through my interactions with three osteopathic physicians. I shadowed three separate osteopathic physicians for one day each, so for about five hours each. I saw many similarities between the three doctors. To begin I was amazed by their humanistic approach when they interacted with their patients. It was not very robotic, something I was used to seeing. They had a casual conversation with their patients and connected with them as if they were friends. This was the kind of interaction I foresaw with my patients. Secondly they were never in a rush to end the appointment. They gave each patient the care and attention they deserve. Even if they where running a bit behind. When I shadowed allopathic

When I decided I wanted to become a physician, I knew I wanted to be an osteopathic physician. Osteopathic physicians focus on the whole body when diagnosing a patient, make personal relationships with their patients, and help many underserved areas. I feel these qualities are what the medical field needs in order to progress and I want to be a part of that progression. After taking many biology and chemistry courses, I know that the body is like a machine; when one part is malfunctioning it can cause other problems to arise throughout the machine. When a patient comes in with one complaint, I think it is important to look at the body like a machine and find out exactly where the problem is stemming from and fix it.…

What separates CCOM from other osteopathic schools is their standard of excellence in all aspects of medicine. Rather than solely prioritizing an understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology, CCOM recognizes the physician-patient relationship is central to delivering superior care. Coming from a sometimes difficult and diverse family background, spending hundreds of hours in the ER of an inner-city hospital, and serving multiple disadvantaged populations through volunteering, I genuinely relate to and understand the needs of all types of patients, and recognize this is equally important to one’s breadth of medical knowledge. Being a leader in medicine also includes a dedication to advancing our ability to provide treatment…

I’ve tried to come up with alternative ways to explain why I want to become a physician’s assistant, but I just cannot find the words if it’s not the truth. This is a difficult essay for me to write because no one else knows this story besides my husband and to explain myself efficiently I need to start from the beginning. My mother only attended college for a short period until she met my father, got married and had two children. She never went back to school or found a career because my father always took care of her financially until 19 years later. Long story short, their marriage ended up not lasting for many reasons.…

The decision to pursue a career in osteopathic medicine is both one that I have only recently reached and the evolution and continuation of a goal I have been pursuing since childhood. The will to help others has always been a part of my character; today that desire has been focused into the goal of preventing the onset of major mental illnesses in at-risk individuals, both by building a strong clinical practice and through research to identify and refine evidence-based interventions for people at high risk of a first psychotic episode. I have chosen osteopathic medicine because working in partnership with and caring for the whole patient are of fundamental importance to the challenges I hope to address as a physician. I am particularly interested in TouroCOM because it values and promotes social awareness…

I believe that successful osteopathic physician must be personable, passionate, patient centered, and most importantly, a leader in the community. A primary care physician is a doctor who provides regular medical care for his or her patients through routine exams and bloodwork. In this profession, a doctor often diagnose patients who share their complaints and as a result either suggest more care, such as seeing a specialist, or prescribing medicine or running additional tests. While job shadowing Dr. Adrian Oribello, accompanied by Justine Oribello and Ashley Kim, I learned that these specific physicians are essentially the backbone to the medical community; they diagnose patients and provide a wide range of medical care in order to treat the assumed illness or disease. According to Dr. Oribello, the most challenging part of being a primary care physician is examining patients who have pre-diagnosed themselves through…

When I first decided to pursue a career in medicine, the osteopathic philosophy was not something I was very familiar with. I knew that I owed it to myself and even my future patients to research the profession and make it a priority to shadow an osteopathic physician. It took many cold calls and emails, but through the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Mentor Program I was eventually able to find an osteopathic physician, specializing in family medicine, that was excited to share the profession with me. Dr. Phuc Huynh, DO, invited me to spend the morning with him as he visited his patients in a skilled nursing facility. Conversing with Dr. Huynh about the osteopathic philosophy and observing him compassionately interact with his patients…
