Many knee replacements are caused by osteoarthritis and researchers have found that a gene called FAAH is higher in people who have osteoarthritis. FAAH is fatty acid amine hydrolase, which is a membrane hydrolase with a single N-terminal transmembrane domain. In the past, the FAAH gene has been directly correlated with pain sensitivity. FAAH is also a gene known to balance and deactivates anandamide, meaning mutations of the FAAH gene is linked less anxiety. The gene can also be referred to as FAAH-1 or PSAB. The gene is vital to several functions of the human body, however the slightest alteration of the gene can result in osteoarthritis.
Another thing researchers have found that can cause osteoarthritis is a rare defect in people’s production of collagen. Collagen is a triple helical molecule and makes up a major section of the extracellular matrix. This fibrous, structural protein makes up the white fibers found in, skin, bones, tendon, and cartilage. Collagen is an essential building block for mechanical resistance in multicellular organisms. However it is also a signal molecule involved in coding cellular shape and …show more content…
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) makes osteoarthritis worse and it enables it to work faster because RA attacks the body's own immune system which then makes it easier for osteoarthritis to occur and it also increases the pain osteoarthritis causes. Most people with chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis have more than one disease and osteoarthritis is very commonly associated with chronic diseases. Doctors highly recommend exercising to avoid getting any of these
