Do the names Moritz Braun, Hirsch Chewel, Helena Dortheimer, or Anna Reich sound familiar? To German officials of the Third Reich, these names would be better known as 69053, 77193, 76230, and 76407. They don’t care about their names, families, or history. The only thing the SS officers need to know are the numbers; numbers that were tattooed onto the Jews’ arms, as if to say, “we own you know.” But to one man, a person means so much more than a number. To him, a person is a living human being, and this man did whatever it took to save as many Jewish lives as he could. His name is Oskar Schindler. Oskar Schindler, born in 1908, was a German, member of the Nazi Party, and industrialist who saved 1,200 Jewish lives during the Holocaust. …show more content…
This means that if he wants to save the Jews, he would have to act fast. He approaches Goeth and convinces him to buy his workers back. Goeth accepts, but demands a large payment for each Jew. Schindler and Stern then compose a list of all the Jews that will be bought off of Goeth (this list is known as Schindler’s List). Soon Schindler brings briefcases full of money to Goeth, and the Jews on the list are transported to his new factory in his hometown. That definitely shows that Schindler has changed, because at first he was too selfish to hire workers without giving them a wage. Now, he is spending all of the money he has earned to save the Jews heading to Auschwitz. But there was a mix-up with the trains. The train with the women going to Schindler’s factory ended up at Auschwitz. Schindler confronts the SS official in charge of the camp and bribes him with jewels in order to get the women back. As they are loading the women back onto the train, the SS officers pulled the children out of line, since they thought they weren’t any use for the factory. Schindler becomes enraged and demands the officers to put them on the train. When a guard asks how they’re useful, Schindler responds with “Their fingers polish the insides of shell metal casings. How else am I to polish the inside …show more content…
Schindler approaches Levartov one day and asks him if today was Friday. Levartov doesn’t know, and Schindler says, “What's the matter with you? You should be preparing for the Sabbath, shouldn't you?” After years of being forbidden to perform Jewish rituals, this takes Levartov by surprise. Schindler is allowing the Jews to have their day of rest, when before he was concerned of losing days of production when they had to shovel snow. This is an example that Schindler is more caring toward the Jews and not preoccupied with production. The Jews keep working in the factory and Schindler continues to bribe SS officials so they won’t take the Jews to Auschwitz. Eventually, Germany’s surrender is announced, and Russian or American soldiers will show up soon to liberate the Jews. Schindler gathers the Jews and SS officers into his factory to make a big speech regarding the surrender. He tells the SS officers that he knows they’ve been ordered to kill the Jews in the factory, and he gives them the option to shoot them now or, “you could leave, and return to your families as men instead of murderers.” To the Jews’ surprise, the SS guards leave. Once again, Schindler had prevented any of the Schindlerjuden from being harmed by talking the guards into leaving without killing

I believe he did it because he genuinely had pity on the Jews. This is because Schindler employed over a thousand of them in his enamelware and ammunitions factories. He spent around 10 million marks from buying the Jews that were suppose to go to camps, and paying for all of them for being in his factory and eventually went bankrupt because of it. That 10 million marks translates to a greatly significant amount of money in American dollars. The point is, why would he go bankrupt and risk his reputation and life if it was really all about his ego?…

According to Schindler’s List by E.S., the depiction of the Krakow ghetto in the movie is accurate and was good at displaying the horror and the sadness of the deportations from the ghetto and the eventual liquidation of the ghetto (Monahan, 2013). This is explained by the Aktionen or round ups and when people state that life in the ghetto is better “liberty” than other things that could have happened (Monahan, 2013). However, some sources indicate that Oskar Schindler was not the miracle worker that he was portrayed as in the movie. For example, many sources and historians state that Schindler did not care about the fate of the Jews and the only reason why he became heavily involved in saving them was to first make money off of them but eventually cared for the people who worked for him as the war became worse. One example of Schindler not caring about the fate of the Jews was when he bought an apartment in Krakow that was previously used by Jews and did not care that these people were forcibly moved out of their own home and he just moves in with nothing stopping him.…

Picture a man who spends all his time chasing after women, causing trouble, and generally making like difficult for other people. Now picture that man acting as a spy for the Nazi party. Finally, picture that man saving over a thousand Jewish lives and being credited as a hero. This amazing change is what prompted me to choose Oskar Schindler as my topic of discussion. Schindler came from relatively humble beginnings, and spent most his early life indulging in all the “finer” things in life.…

In Steven Spielberg’s film, Schindler’s List, he communicates the experiences of witnesses, survivors, and victims through a number of scenes. He takes advantage of the personal level in which the viewers could relate to these scenes to express what these people experienced and the emotions that were felt during the time of the Holocaust. Spielberg uses different points of view in this film to convey all perspectives in this story. He portrays the standpoints of German officers, Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth, but one of the most deeply felt perspectives of this story is shown through the experiences of the prisoners in the concentration camps. One scene in which Spielberg conveys the perspectives of both Schindler and Goeth was shown in the…

The Diverse Correlation Between Father and Son Herr Schindler senior of Schindler’s List has very specific ideas regarding destiny, which become evident when he states that “Destiny […] was not a limitless rope. It was a piece of elastic. The harder you went forward, the more fiercely you were jerked back to your starting point” (39). Herr Hans Schindler demonstrates a fairly negative outlook on life, considering his failed marriage, and the ongoing economic crisis of his past. Therefore, it is surprising that his son, Oskar Schindler, demonstrates positivity throughout the storyline.…

The central theme of Schindler’s List is that you cannot judge a person based on their ethnicity, religion, or anything other than who they are as an individual. Getting to know a person can completely change your perspective on who they are. The Nazis grouped all Jews into the same group of “inferior” people, but made no effort at all to distinguish each individual from one another. They assumed that all Jews were evil, and that their extermination would be beneficial to the rest of the world. When Schindler meets and starts his business with Itzhak Stern, Schindler is able to get to know Stern as an individual, rather than just another Jew.…
