Oskar Schindler: A War Hero

Oskar Schindler was a war hero who saved many Jews during the Holocaust, giving many of them a second chance at life. Oskar Schindler was born April 28, 1908 in Svitavy, which is in present-day Czech Republic. He started out as part of the Nazi party. In 1939 him and his family traveled to Krakow and got involved in the black market. He opened a factory that made German war goods and employed Polish Jews. these weren't his intentions at first but many jews were saved from concentration camps. He called it the Deutsche Emaillewaren-Fabrik, German Enamelware Factory. He started off with 45 Jews but Itzhak Stern, a Jewish accountant helped him get more. By 1944 1700 workers were employed. He ended up saving around 1200 of them. His workers were known as Schindlerjuden, or Schindler Jews. they were hired as cheap labor at first but he then started to hire more to save them. In 1942 half of his workers were Jewish. Whenever the Jews were threatened to be taken to labor labor camps schindler would convince the officers they were well needed and would even bribe them. He put his own life at risk in order to save all those jews life. In 1938 he was even sentenced to the death sentence for spying. Fortunately he got released after. He got a second chance just like all those Jews. After the war, Schindler filed bankruptcy. Probably due to all of the bribing he did to save all his workers. The definition of a hero is a man who shows courage in order to perform noble tasks in return for admiration. Oskar Schindler had a special relationship with his workers. Like Leon Leyson. He was a little boy who was thirteen when he was brought into the factory. He was the youngest of the workers. When he was taken in Schindler showed kindness and and compassion for him and his
