Where it all began
On July 22, 1932 an artist was born. In Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Oscar Aristides Renta Fiallo was born, or known around the world as Oscar de la Renta. In 1951, when Oscar turned 19, his father wanted him to join him in his insurance business, but he decided to study painting and sketching at the Real Academia de Bella Artes in San Fernando, Madrid instead. During this time Oscar drew clothing sketches for newspapers and fashion houses for extra money, and his designs were catching some major attention. In 1973 He became President of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), and represented the United States at the Versailles fashion show. Oscar had received many awards acknowledging his beautiful fashion masterpieces and hard work. He had also served another term as President of the CFDA from 1986-1988. He expanded from his ready to wear collection, all the way to a home collection. In 2014, he received the medal of excellence from Carnegie Hall in New York City. Shortly after on the 10th of October, Oscar had passed away with cancer at the age of 82.
