Over a decade later the CIA had finally located him in Abbottabad Pakistan, 35 miles north of their capitol. There hadn't been a trace of Bin Laden for more than eight years since a failed plan in Tora Bora at a mountain post. Finally over a decade after 9/11, They found him through a man called Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, which was a false name, he was a Pakistani, and known to U.S. intelligence as the main courier for Osama Bin Laden, which the U.S. had also been searching for this man as well for four years. He made a phone call to "An old friend." In the phone call there was a pause, as if this friend knew that Kuwaiti’s words meant he had came back to bin Laden’s inner circle, and was right next to the al-Qaeda leader himself, then the friend replied, "May god facilitate." U.S. intelligence traced this phone call and through technical sources followed this man to an odd compound, in Abbottabad with high walls and barbed-wire fencing at the top. As U.S. intelligence surveyed the compound, they noticed a man would come out every day and would pace back and forth, for an hour or two, they believed this was Bin Laden, his way of getting fresh air. It appears that "Khallad" was likely Khalid al-Mihdhar, who would became one of the 9/11 hijackers. He had left Bangkok in January 2000 and flew to Los Angeles. The memos show the growing sense of unease in the CIA about Al Qaeda's plans to attack American interests. By June 2001 a top secret memo notes that an Arabic TV news channel had reported Bin Laden had gone into hiding and said, "Multiple reports indicate that extremists expect Bin Laden to launch attacks over the coming days, possibly against Israeli or US interests." But there is little sense that the attack would be inside the United States.
