Thesis statement: Settlers came to Osage County in Missouri for the prosperous land resources of trees, hunting, rivers and hills; and to establish a community based on strong roots.

Osage County is in Central Missouri. The county came into existence after having been detached from a part of Gasconade County. In 1855, the bottom part of Osage County was given to form the top half of the new Maries County. The county was created in 1841 and the county seat is in Linn, Missouri. These sturdy characters were ambitious to establish institutions of learning in the new county. They were devout Catholics and aspired to give to the world an example of devotion to faith by establishing foundations of learning intended to promote the growth of their religion. Specifically, in Westphalia, Missouri, the parish of St. Joseph was established in 1835 and the historic Roman Catholic Church was built in 1848. They were industrious people who prospered in the new land of their adoption. Not long after the county seat was established in Linn, Missouri, a link connecting the people of the county and its local news called for an establishment of a local paper. In 1868, the Unterrified Democrat was established in Osage County. The paper provided cohesiveness with the county government and the people.
Phase V: Conclusion In conclusion, Osage County is a county that is made up of small communities that still are in existence today. The small towns of Westphalia, Linn, Loose Creek, Freeburg, Folk, and Rich Fountain, are just a few to name. Osage County is fruitful with game such as deer, raccoon, squirrel, rabbit, and fish. The waterways including the Osage, Maries, and Gasconade Rivers continue to provide us with recreational opportunities such as boating, canoeing, tubing, fishing and arrow rock searching. Along with the strong ties to the Catholic faith that remain to unite us, this is our small county that we know and
