A1. Risk Factors We are situated in a growing county with an annual growth rate of 4%. Businesses and retirees are attracted to our growing community. Within the next five years, the projected demographics for our area will push the population of “over the age of 65” to 15%. This expanding trend will require greater medical treatment demands for orthopedics, cardiology and oncology with orthopedics estimated to increase substantially. Increasing the risks for our community for additional medical services considering our two nearest competitors are 7 and 10 miles away, we need to act on our five year strategic plan to provide the services our community requires. New cases of oncology are expected to grow +34%, cases of coronary artery disease estimated to increase +21%, both higher demands than we can currently meet. However, growing orthopedic cases are topping the scales at +46%, inpatient joint and spine procedures up +30% and outpatient joint and spine procedures up an incredible +350%. Due to the rapid expansion of orthopedics confirmed by the state planning data and given our current physicians and facilities, we will not be able to service this growing demand without expanding resources to meet the needs of the community. …show more content…
Addressing Needs
By expanding hospital services to address the largest need first, which is orthopedics, this would meet the needs of more people in the community. The hospital should also do more with cardio and oncology such as education, awareness events, records, providing basic services to begin establishing a relationship with those potential patients. According to research by Grube, M. & Crnkovich, P. (2017), virtual visit, digital assistants, medical tracking devices, transportation, and wellness services are only a few of the many features that are part of the healthcare picture for modern consumers.
