Orthodontistic Career Progression

Decent Essays
Taking a futuristic view on my life, in a decade from now, I see myself having graduated from dental school and coming to the end of my Orthodontic residency. Though, many may view progression toward a career that spans such a vast period as tedious and unpleasant, I believe the opposite. I know that during this time, I will experience growth as an individual and challenges as a student, but in the end, it will be worth my sacrifice. I am interested in pursuing a career in dentistry because I want to help other’s feel proud of their smile. I grew up hating my teeth because they weren’t perfectly straight and people would make fun of me because of that. It was a constant blow to my self-esteem, causing me to constantly beg my parents for braces.

Since he is a fairly recent graduate, he was able to discuss with me the expectations of dental school and the expenses that come with starting a private practice. He had just recently bought an existing practice and was in the process of updating the office with more modern equipment. Experience wise, I was able to see the filling of a cavity, adjustment of a partial, fitment of a crown, and reseeding a tooth in a broken…
