The experience of the patient in the article does seem to be a common occurrence and one that is apparently trending more towards the norm in medical practices. Medicine in this country is a business and when physicians or organizations have a financial interest or referral agreements, this incentivizes ordering images; whether necessary or not. It underlines a reason why patients need to speak up, ask questions, and take a greater role in their healthcare. I have never had a CT scan, but a somewhat related experience is when my dentist had X-rays taken on a tooth, referred me to an Orthodontist, and then the tooth was X-rayed again in that office a couple of days later. In retrospect, I can question why the first images taken were not sufficient
