Orthodontics Career Essay

Before becoming a senior and having the worries of completing applications, life in school was as simple as can be. As the years went by, my hobbies and extracurriculars I participated in had increased just as much as my knowledge of what I want to pursue in my post high school life. 6th grade was the year I had braces on my teeth. For 2 years they were a part of my life and every single day something was bothering me….what was the science behind them? How did they work? Orthodontics would be my first choice in a career path from that moment on. The thought of looking into the dentistry programs and science courses anywhere never occurred to me up until one of my teammates had spoken of the health program at UW-Oshkosh during his freshman …show more content…
I spoke with Coach Mckenna and some of his athletes because I am planning to run at the collegiate level. Coach Mckenna and his athletes all suggested I come down to visit the campus so I could receive a tour of everything Oshkosh has to offer. On October 15th I visited UW-Oshkosh where I met Coach Mckenna for a tour. The tour started in the sports facility, making our way through locker rooms and training facilities for athletes from various sports. We covered nursing, science, mathematics, business and many more. Being an outgoing person, I met most of the cross country team, got along instantly and even discussed what path would be best for me with one of the athletes. With the conclusion of that tour, Oshkosh became one of my top choices for a 4-year University that I would attend. Both the educational and athletic traits I came across while touring demonstrated that UW-Oshkosh would be a perfect place for me to want to succeed in. After investigating the courses and majors that Oshkosh has available, I believe that engaging myself in both sports and my studies will make me very successful keeping the values of teamwork and hard-work as well as still enjoying the people around

To get an understanding of the significance of interscholastic competition at the collegiate level, simply turn on the television on a Saturday morning during college football. The sponsors, fans, pageantry, etc., is astronomical and continues to grow exponentially. Undoubtedly, college athletics is “big business” and is often viewed as a separate entity. Duke professor of public policy, economics and law, Charles T. Clotfelter, offers an interesting viewpoint on college athletics, stating faculty members’ blindness to the significance of big-time sports amounts to operating in a parallel universe, which is impossible, because the evidence is all around us and so commonplace (Etizen, 2012). Its difficulty to disagree with Clotfelter because sports are deeply rooted in our society.…

A problem shared by many colleges and universities across the nation is the battle between coaches wanting their most talented recruits to be accepted to the institution, and admission offices following rules set by the university or national governing boards for all applicants. This problem only grows when the ever-stressful conversation of scholarship and financial aid is brought into the mix. It is unethical for an admission office to lower standards for a specific population of students, no matter how badly the student wants to attend or how much a member or the university faculty or staff wants a student to enroll at the university. The Muskingum University Athletic Department continues to put pressure on the Admission and Financial…
