At site 3 and 4, Tanytarsus is most abundant between 12 -14 degrees. Site 3 is nearer the Elphistone River source which channels from the Westerly catchment area away from the St Mary’s glacier. This site is situated at a height of 1200m and has half the abundance of Tanytarsus organism. It can be concluded from the habitat preference curve that the likely temperature of the river at Site 3 would be 11o C.
