This analysis will offer an overview of the vision statement for the nonprofit organization, Orphan’s Heart. We will examine the content and organization of the statement, as well as critique its depth, clarity, and effectiveness. Orphan’s Heart is a faith-based organization whose headquarters are located in Lakeland, FL. However, they operate internationally, with their most popular areas being in Guatemala and Uganda. They play slightly different roles in each area; running a malnutrition center in Guatemala and working with an orphanage in Uganda. Regardless of their direct role, their focus is always on children facing adversity.
The vision statement for Orphan’s Heart is, “to see a world where the ‘orphan cycle’ is broken, and orphans who have only seen dysfunction will grow up to be healthy adults and have healthy and happy families.” Orphan’s Heart does a good job of stating their purpose and vision for the future. They do well to explain the ‘what’ but the statement is lacking in describing

First, the statement is more focused on the overall vision for the world and not so much the vision for their organization, and the role it will play in making that overall vision come to fruition. While the statement is organized in a concise manner, it is broad, illustrating a complex concept. The statement lacks clarity, specifically, in regards to the ‘orphan cycle.’ While one can infer what the ‘orphan cycle’ means, there is no clear explanation. Finally, what I found to be most concerning was the fact that there was no mention of faith in their statement. Orphan’s Heart is a faith-based organization and is strongly rooted in faith. The organization was founded through a church and it partners with churches across the nation. Missionaries comprise a majority of the volunteers within the organization. I find it problematic that faith was not mentioned in the
