Orphan Train Character Analysis

The main characters in Orphan Train are Molly, Vivian, and Dutchy. Molly is a seventeen year old girl who is in and out of Orphan homes due to her dead father and mother who turned to drugs. She battle with jarring foster parents and siblings. She is hopeful to find someone who will love and accept her for who she is. Vivian is a ninety-one year old woman who Molly did some community service for. Although through time, Vivian and Molly created a heartwarming bond like no other. The final main character is Dutchy. Dutchy and Molly encountered on the orphan train at nine years old. They instantly felt a connection and tried to hold it as long as possible. She grew up with no parents. Her mother took the life of drugs and her father died in a car crash. With no one, she was forced into the foster program. She was sent to a family, whether she liked it or not. If she misbehaved, she’d be sent somewhere else. Molly was put on an orphan train, which stops at different towns and children are put to auction. On the train, she met Dutchy. She was forced in a room to sew all day with a bunch of other women. When the family ran out of money, she was forced to move. She was then sent to a family that lived on a farm. Molly was sent to school everyday, but had to walk 1 mile to the bus stop. At school, she earned the respect of her teacher. When things went bad at home, her teacher could tell, but when she asked, Molly denied. At Molly’s home, her foster dad gave her unwanted attention. Feeling uncomfortable, an event happened to cause Molly to be forced out of the house. Feeling unwanted, she walked four miles to the school house and slept outside. In the morning, the teacher and principal found Molly. Molly trusted the teacher enough to tell her what happened. Molly told her everything, so she called her P.O. He suggested talking to the family and go back. Molly refused and wouldn’t go back. She stayed with her teacher at her place for a few nights. Molly never felt more at home. Sadly, Molly couldn't stay forever. Her teacher knew a couple who owned a store and were looking for help. Molly ended up going there and things were going well.
