Walt Disney had a vision. He imagined an amusement park where children and their parents could enjoy rides and have fun together. But, when he was in an amusement park in the early twentieth century, he noticed that there were only random assortments of roller coasters, and how sanitation wasn't the greatest importance. Walt wanted a place where children and families could have fun together in a clean, orderly and fun way, and at an affordable price. Moving to Orlando from Miami was a huge culture shock to me. Being from the city where people rarely sleep and restaurants/convenience stores are open 24/7 I had a bit of difficulty understanding why the Walgreens around the corner was closing at 12:00 a.m. As I adjusted to what I thought was a drastic change Orlando decided that it wanted to teach me a bit about nature. My time here has pushed me out of my shell and made me a bit more outdoorsy.…

This story begins on a hot, summer Sunday on a neighborhood playground in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida when I was a kindergartener. The playground had one item that I liked the most which was a thing that you would hold onto then someone would push you across ten feet while your feet were hanging down. My dad came up to push me and might have pushed me a little too hard. When I got to the end of the line there was a rubber block that stops you very abruptly. Due to inertia, I was flung off of the handle over the rail, then did some crazy acrobatics in the air, Finally I landed right on top of my left wrist.…

When we think of amusement parks, such as Disney and Six flags there is no learning involve. Let alone does anyone ever think that one could help them understand a tragedy like 9-11. We only think of fun, laughter, games, and roller coasters. We do not see swamps based on the Vietnam war or roller coasters based on OJ Simpson car chase in 1994. It seems so unusual for some people to have a theme park like this.…

From smelling the salty waters by the Florida Keys, seeing all of the green from the stems of green beans growing, the flavor of the freshest eggs you could get from the coop in the backyard, to the avocado tree growing in the backyard, my trip to Florida had become one of the greatest life experiences I’ve had yet. Visiting Florida taught me many skills on being independent, mentally, and how easy and fun it is just to be to yourself sometimes. It all started Christmas eve when I got home to find my presents from “Santa” there before we even went to bed. My parents had planned on taking a vacation to Florida for Christmas break to see my grandparents, but we were unable to also get my parents there.…
