Many of us have heard of the Central West End, but we do not know where it is or where it starts when entering St. Louis. Well, Central West End Starts at West of Midtown and runs down the city corridor (History of St. Louis Neighborhoods), which is a belt of, land connecting two areas together (Merriam-Webster Online). The neighborhoods are North Delmar Boulevard, South Oakland, Chouteau Avenues, West DeBaliviere, and lastly Forest Park by Vandeventer Avenue (History of St. Louis Neighborhoods). Central West End officially became a neighborhood in 1819. During this time the largest populated area was around Clayton and Manchester Roads (History of St. Louis Neighborhoods). In the 20th century, the Central West End experienced a pattern of urban decline. Also in the 20th century the vacancies were more common and the larger homes were converted into boarding homes (American Planning Association). In 1972, there were small groups of businesspersons gathered at one intersection, which in the end spurred home rehabilitations, additional businesses (American Planning Association).Crime rates in the Central West End, is a safe place to live. There is a 1 and 31 chance that you will be a victim of a crime in the Central West End (MO Crime Rates). But on the other hand the Central West End, has an overall 6% higher crime rate than the Missouri National Average (MO Crime Rates). The most common type of crime that is committed in the Central West End is violent crimes with the projected average of 637 crimes committed. This is compared to the National Average of 368 (MO Crime Rates). The second most common type of crime that is committed in the Central West End is property crimes. The average for the Central West in these types of crimes is 2,648. The National Average is 2,721 (MO Crime Rates). So the Central West End is safer, but on the other hand it has some higher rates of property …show more content…
One of the school systems in the Central West End is St. Louis County Special School District. In this school district there are about 63 Catholic Schools just at the elementary level. There are also middle, and high schools in this school district. Also in this school district there are private schools. In St. Louis County Special School District there are about 67 private schools (ST. LOUIS COUNTY). There are 12 schools in this school district, and the total numbers of students that are enrolled in the school district are 3,055. This school district is also public and it is k-12 school system (ST. LOUIS
